Setsuko had always been the type to believe in fate. That the path of someone's life was determined the moment they were born. It made sense, seeing as from a young age Setsuko had planned out the majority of life for her. She was to be educated by private tutors. She was to participate in athletic sports to keep a beautiful figure. She was to be silent, she was to listen. It wasn't like Setsuko could fight back - her father was the Patriarch of one of the most infamous Yakuza families out there. The Totsunaga Family. While there were small freedoms, Setsuko was forced to abide by her father's ruleset. She was trained to defend herself, although her talent for violence became abundantly clear when Setsuko was crowed National Judo Champion for five straight years in a row. Fearing that his daughter would seem unsightly due to her strength, her father had stopped her from pursuing a career as an athlete by the time she was in her late teens. When she hit twenty, his plan was revealed to her.

She was to marry the Patriarch of the Hanabusa family and combine the clans, and was forced to take her husband's last name. A few years later, after the planning was finished - Setsuko Totsunaga became Setsuko Hanabusa at the age of twenty four. The marriage was briefly happy, maybe in the first couple months. But it was clear that husband didn't care for her. Setsuko was a means to an end, and the young woman spent their early years dealing with the reality of her husband's nature. An thug who was incapable of loyalty, who'd prefer hanging around with hookers half his age and doing drugs whenever possible.

Setsuko spent the next 10 years dealing with this man. She'd devote herself to the clan while her husband was a playboy. She'd deepen her connections with the group, support them whenever possible, go out of her way to defend those who needed it. She'd bail out the members when put in jail, she'd make sure they were all eating properly and getting along. It wasn't long until Setsuko became the leader of the clan in their eyes, where her husband became a figurehead with no real influence. His brain had become damaged from his drugs, and was no longer the capable leader as he once was. At 34, Setsuko became the true Matriarch and leader of the Hanabusa family - and for the past four years she has led a lengthy period of prosperity and gained the nickname 'Onikuma.'
